Play | So a… we got this chicken

One of the unknown perks of working in the suburbs is the opportunity for strange animals to wander down your driveway. On this particular day we were blessed with the presence of a beautiful brown chicken accompanying an appointment to an 11 am meeting. Naturally, we all went out and had a chance to get to know the chicken and decided that Janine, as Bob was calling her, had to become a part of the Faust family. Dave lured Janine into the backyard with some granola so that we could contact someone about what exactly we should do with Janine. After we made some calls and determined that no one in Riverside knows how to deal with live chickens we went back out to check on her. To our dismay, she had flown the coop. Guess she was just a little too free-range.

Play | Highway 127 Road Trip. Day 5

Day 5, the final day of Sally and Kali’s World’s Longest Yard Sale road trip, was a whirlwind day that began quickly and ended slowly as we took an annoying GPS-led detour and sat in traffic the last 100 or so miles. We got in some last-minute picking and collected a few more stories between Frankfort and Owenton, Kentucky before we headed back home. One such story was Kali spotting two (new-ish) hospital bedpans for sale side-by-side. One was priced at $9, the other at $5. Why? One of many yard sale pricing mysteries.

Play | Highway 127 Road Trip. Day 4

Sally and Kali’s World’s Longest Yard Sale Adventure continued on Day 4 covering the area between Jamestown, Kentucky, and Frankfort, Kentucky—roughly 100 or so miles. This brought our four-day total to more than 900 miles traveled. After some sightseeing at the Cumberland Dam and a driving emergency, we continued north on the winding and hilly curves of 127 … through the nether regions of the bluegrass state, visiting yard after yard after truck after porch and other questionable selling locales.

Play | Highway 127 Road Trip. Day 3

Day 3 of Sally and Kali’s World’s Longest Yard Sale road trip spanned from Pikeville, Tennessee to Jamestown, Kentucky, and covered 134 miles of Highway 127. It goes without saying that the South is on the extreme side of hot and humid, but two days of heavy afternoon storms temporarily cooled things off. Thankfully, we were prepared.

Play | Highway 127 Road Trip. Day 2

Day 2 of Sally and Kali’s World’s Longest Yard Sale Adventure started in Louisville, Kentucky, ended in Pikeville, Tennessee, and covered 391 miles … probably a good 100+ miles longer than it needed to be. A traffic pileup on the way down forced a detour and an unplanned visit to Georgia, then back to Tennessee, then back to Georgia, then back to Tennessee.

Play | Highway 127 Road Trip. Day 1

The Faust studio has lost Sally (that’s me) for the rest of the week as Kali and I begin our much-anticipated 1200-mile road trip adventure: the Highway 127 World’s Longest Yard Sale. The Sale covers the territory from Gadsden, Alabama to Hudson, Michigan, though we will only be covering the states of AL, TN, and KY (in that order) and returning home, crap in-tow. Read More »

Work + Play | 2010 Designer Swim Summer Olympics

For the second year in a row, Faust will be hosting our designer-only summer event, affectionately called Designer Swim. Last year was our inaugural foray into this competitive event concept. At that time, we introduced Riverside’s first Micro-Triathlon. This year, we’ve gotten even more serious, tacking on the Olympics moniker and even more competitive events to let our opponents know that they better start assembling some strong teams. Moreover, we’ve been training…and working on our tans.

Work + Play | Folk’n Good Times

Our beloved friends and long time clients at Old Town School of Folk Music hosted their annual Folk & Roots Festival at Welles Park in Lincoln Square this past weekend. It was two days filled with beats from around the world, family friendly activities, and plenty of smiling faces. This year’s festivities were especially celebratory as Old Town prepares to move into their new building in 2011. Join them by being a part of their Building Community.

Work | Chicago Zoological Society 2009 Annual Report

After Brookfield Zoo recently completed their Great Bear Wilderness exhibit, Dave had threatened to move from our humble basement studio to those more comfortable confines. Thankfully, the one thing the exhibit is lacking is good internet access. Alas, Dave designed their 2009 Annual Report without the comfort of a warm bear hug.
